Cambria

Cambria Lawn Bowls Green, located on California’s Central Coast a scant half mile (as the crow flies) from the Pacific Ocean, established in 1968. Our artificial turf green was totally refurbished in Spring 2019.  Currently, we are adding a deck, fencing and other improvements to ready our facility to host our first ever Singles Tournament. (COVID postponed, but still planning for future event.)

Our bowlers love this game!  Many have been in the club for nearly 20 years. We bowl four days a week, and sometimes two games a day. Since many people love to visit our little town of Cambria (https://www.cambriachamber.org/), we often have visiting bowlers, or others interested in learning about bowls.  We love hosting other clubs, and look forward to visitors soon.  You can follow us on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CambriaLawnBowlsClub

Pasadena.jpg

Pasadena

The Pasadena Lawn Bowling Club was established in 1921, making it the oldest club in Southern California. Many of its members went on to establish other clubs in what would become the Southwest Division, giving Pasadena the distinction of the "Birthplace of California Lawn Bowling."

The first recorded lawn bowling green in California was at the Raymond Hotel in Pasadena in 1883. The sport became so popular, bowlers petitioned the city of Pasadena to build a lawn bowling green in the newly dedicated Central Park in Pasadena. When the city council baulked at the idea because of funding, the lawn bowlers took up a collection and built two greens and gave them as a gift to the city of Pasadena. The original club had 18 members, including Walter Raymond, the owner of the Raymond Hotel. The street where the Pasadena Lawn Bowling Club is located bears his name.

The club hosts the Rose Lawn Bowl every New Years Eve. It's a competition between alumni and fans of the two schools in the Rose Bowl football game.

In 2020 the Pasadena Lawn Bowling Club never shut its doors. The club adopted strict COVID protocols and kept on bowling, making the club the USA's oldest continually-operating Lawn Bowling Club. The club was built by members who survived the 1918 pandemic and has never closed its doors.
